Bordbar began in 2006 with the idea of restoring old aircraft trolleys. What started as simply reviving old airline trolleys quickly evolved into a passion for reinventing and reimagining these unique pieces of furniture.

Stephan Boltz is Founder and CEO of Bordbar.
Stephan graduated as a state-certified designer from Ludwigshafen Technical College in 2002. This was followed by studies to qualify as a state-certified interior design consultant at Cologne Technical College for the Furniture Trade. After several years in the furniture industry, Stephan Boltz’s passion for vintage furniture led him to found the company bordbar in 2006.

Since 2006, Bordbar have been passionately crafting individual design furniture pieces in Cologne. With the highest standards in design, quality, and function.
In 2023, they reached a significant milestone by moving into their own building within Cologne. This new spatial change not only provided them with more space but also allows the to realise their vision of a modern and inspiring working environment. The building is truly fabulous! Outside, a striking black monolith and inside, a place for everything and everything in its place... can I say - so very German?!

This is the office and showroom for Bordbar. Through a glass wall between the office and production, they create true transparency. Their entire team can interact during work, and visitors gain insight into their production processes. This open design promotes collaboration and information flow between different departments, allowing everyone to experience the creation process of their handcrafted Bordbar products up close.

From Used to New
Unfortunately, old aircraft trolleys are now extremely rare on the global market, and their condition is often heavily worn. That's why they specialise in producing new aircraft trolleys according to ATLAS standards. With their newly crafted trolleys, there is the opportunity to further develop the models through unique innovations and new designs.

Every individual trolley is handled with love and care. The trolleys even have the OWN trolley (designed by their very own in-house innovator, Michael Schreier. We were told part of his work is to watch the team working... and find ways to make things easier for them, or more efficient. Very early on, Michael noticed the craftsman needed to bend down to work, and when placed on the floor the wheels of the Bordbar trolley would become dirty and ned to be cleaned. So he developed a trolley for the trolleys! This raised them to a higher working height, so no more bending over, and kept the wheels clean for their entire production journey. I love this story!

We had the pleasure of meeting Michael during our visit to Bordbar's incredible workshop. You truly see that everyone is excited and proud to be part of this special journey that Stefan embarked upon back in 2006.
