Whether you’re furnishing a cosy nook or a spacious living room, the BC 05 Stomp from Janua is the perfect addition. It may look simple, but its impact is anything but... and has quite the journey before it lands in your living room.
|
At first glance, the BC 05 Stomp might appear to be just another table, but don’t let its simplicity fool you. This table has become a standout in the world of coffee and side tables, and for good reason. With the serene presence of a Buddha, this substantial slice of tree trunk, balanced elegantly on a sleek metal frame, exudes a quiet confidence. The BC 05 Stomp doesn’t just complement your seating arrangement—it elevates it, becoming a striking symbol of your personal taste.

The drying process is vital for stability of the wood in your final Stomp Table. Following three to four years of meticulous storage and drying, the raw material is crafted to accentuate its distinctive features, allowing the wood to take on its final form.
|
Each Stomp Table is carefully hand crafted, and combined with the unique qualities of the piece of timber, each Stomp is truly a one-of-a-kind.
|
Each Stomp Table is totally unique in finish and available in several size groups.

Hoffmann Kahleyss designed the Stomp Table for Janua, but Stefan Knopp is responsible for many of my favourite finishes for the Stomp Table... and bringing out the real character and story of the timber. I caught up with Stefan Knopp, aka "the tree whisperer" at the Cologne Furniture Fair back in 2022 to discuss his unique charburning and pigmenting techniques.

Carbonising
Fire can destroy, but simultaneously, it breathes life; its influence initiates a metamorphosis. During the cooling process, wood is subjected to a flame exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius. It forms cracks and exposes inherent tensions. Subsequent brushing reveals the robust structures, creating an engaging tactile experience. The wood's expressive strength is further underscored.
|
During a visit to Janua at their manufactory in Germany I had a go at carbonising a table myself.. well, I got it started, but then left it to the professionals! It was definitely empowering and the inner firebug bug in me enjoyed it immensely 🔥
|
Surfaces
At every stage of the production process, the life story embedded in the tree unfolds. Washing accentuates the texture, cooling highlights distinctive features, and the introduction of metallic pigments metallic pigments enables new dimensions.
|
Pigmenting
Following the washing and cooling processes, the wood becomes exceptionally absorbent. At this point, colour and metallic pigments are meticulously integrated into the wood, often through multiple steps. The choice of color can either accentuate or soften the natural structures.

The outdoor Stomp Table is crafted in raw robinia (acacia) wood, which provides the unique shape. The stomp sits confidently on a filigree powder-coated aluminium frame, which is available in various heights. Beautiful indoors and out. My husband, Bernd and myself are pictured here with Founder of Janua, Christian Seisenberger.
Janua is more than just furniture. Janua is a statement. Janua likes trees the way nature intended, as these offer wood with character — wood that sometimes “does its own thing”! Janua products don’t embellish anything, telling the story of their origins with a simple and authentic voice; a voice needing no amplification.

Whether outside or inside the Stomp quietly commands attention. They never shout, but they certainly make themselves known with their weighty top and filigran legs. Soft, muted tones and raw timbers give them such a different personality compared to their char-burned and gold pigmented alternatives.

The Stomp Outdoor Tables can be custom-ordered with various coloured legs, pictured here is "traffic white". I can't think of a much better place to be on such a sunny Sunday as this little set-up - take me there! 🤍 Sparkling water or champagne anyone?

Styling with BC05 Stomp Tables

What I really love about the Stomp Table is how it can be rustic and wholesome... or refined, yet edgy.
