AALTO VASES | Designed by architect Alvar Aalto, the Aalto collection was launched in 1936. It stood out from the popular styles of its time, and the design of the Aalto vase still feels modern. The Savoy vase (above), is perhaps the best-known product in the Aalto collection. |
KARTIO COLLECTION | Known as the conscience of Finnish design, Kaj Franck sought to remove excess in his work leaving only the essentials. In 1958, Franck realised his goal with his Kartio collection, which captured the perfect balance between material and geometric form. Simple yet durable enough for everyday use while the sleek design brings refined elegance to any table. Kartio has become an iconic symbol of Nordic design that goes beyond any trend. |
SIESTA SERIES | In 1965 Ingmar Relling designed his greatest creation: the Siesta chair. The chair played an important part of the Norwegian furniture industry’s growth and international success in the mid 1900s. Today Siesta stands out as an internationally recognised classic and a Norwegian icon. |
KAY BOJESEN WOODEN ANIMALS | When the Kay Bojesen brand was founded back in 1932, it marked the start of a story about a craftsman with a great sense of humour and plenty of curiosity. Kay Bojesen created his iconic animals and figures based on the philosophy that good design should be accessible to everyone, and over time Kay Bojesen has become synonymous with original Danish design.

UNIKKO | Marimekko's famous poppy pattern Unikko was born in 1964 in a time when the design house's collections featured mostly abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to create something interesting from this organic theme and designed an entire range of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower represents creativity. |
ARNE JACOBSEN CYLIDNA-LINE | Stelton launched this ground-breaking series as Cylinda-Line. The simplicity of cylindrical shapes and specially designed plastic handles characterised the line which, along with its brushed steel surfaces, stood in striking contrast to the highly polished curves of its day. |
EM77 VACUUM JUG | The EM77 vacuum jug with the unique rocker stopper was created by the Danish designer Erik Magnussen and is produced in Denmark since 1977. Today the vacuum jug is a design icon around the world. The jug holds 1 litre and can be used for coffee and tea. The insulating glass insert keeps the liquid hot for hours - or cold, if the jug is used for e.g. ice tea. Besides the rocker stopper it has a screw cap for picnics and transportation of liquids. Winner of the Danish Design Award (Classic Category, 2007), iF Design Award (1992) and ID Prize (1977). |
AKARI LIGHT SCULPTURES | In 1951 Isamu Noguchi began to design the Akari Light Sculptures, works characterised by weightless luminosity. He chose the name 'akari' for these objects, a word that means 'light' in Japanese, connoting both illumination and physical lightness. During a journey to Japan, Noguchi paid a visit to Gifu, a town known for its manufacture of paper parasols and lanterns. While there he sketched his first two Akari Light Sculptures, and over the following years he created a total of more than 100 models, consisting of table, floor and ceiling lamps ranging in size from 24 to 290 cm. |
EAMES HOUSE BIRD | Charles and Ray Eames enriched the collage-like interior of their private home, the Eames House, with numerous objects and accessories that they brought back from their travels. For over seventy years, the figure of a wooden bird has stood in the centre of the living room – an artefact that was evidently highly treasured by the couple, since it also appeared frequently as an accessory in photographs taken by Charles and Ray.
The Eames House Bird is available in the classic black lacquered version made of solid alder and a walnut version.

GEORGE NELSON WALL CLOCKS | Classics in every sense of the word. These clocks by George Nelson are iconic designs referenced by other clocks the world over. The Wall Clocks come in diverse shapes and materials. Equipped with high-quality quartz movements, they offer a refreshing alternative to conventional clocks – including a wide selection of different designs to suit almost every taste and fancy. |
ARNE JACOBSEN WALL CLOCKS | When Arne Jacobsen designed the Roman Clock for Aarhus Town Hall in 1942, he also created a design icon for the home. The current design is faithful to the original drawings. The clock case supporting the concave glass front gives the clock an appearance of hovering on the wall. Limited stock available. |
NORDIC ROOMS ORNAMENTS | Use these handcrafted paper ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree, seasonal branches or your Christmas table. Choose your favourites from a variety of colours and shapes, and mix and match to get the perfect palette for your magical Christmas. After the festivities, the enclosed magnet enables you to fold and store the ornaments away neatly. |
I look forward to decorating the house this year with the beautiful decorations from Nordic Rooms.
I have started my list early and love finding special gifts that have meaning and last for a long time.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
