Jo Power revitalised the humble greeting card

Thrilled to see this wonderful article on one of our inspiring Austrlian Designers. Often considered an afterhought - Jo Pwer makes the humble card worth the time to really slect the perfect one. We are proud stockists of Jo's range and love her work.

Jo Power is having a big year. Baby Number Two is due in August. Her greeting card business "Things By Bean" is forecast to enjoy its best year yet. And she’s on the brink of another big order.

The idea behind Things By Bean is simple enough; greeting cards so cool you’ll actually want to stick them on the fridge. Power calls them “bite-sized pieces of creativity”. Flowery designs and impersonal messages are ditched in favour for clever witticisms and wry observations. Her cute, often ironic designs appeal to an audience more comfortable sending Facebook messages than licking stamps.

“In a nutshell, I always like to say they’re greeting cards suitable for all occasions, non-occasions and made-up occasions,” she says. “Things By Bean aesthetic is definitely bold, colourful, pretty quirky and downright weird. Cute little graphics that I draw and then convert to digital. I pair them with phrases. That’s my jam.”
