The Unikko pattern cushion cover is made of a cotton and linen blend, which is printed in Helsinki. The cover has a concealed zipper on one side.

Please note: The cushion covers are sewn using the whole width of the fabric, and therefore their appearance may vary. Each item is unique.

Unikko was created by Maija Isola in 1964 and has since become an international icon of print design. The founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia, believed that it was not possible to faithfully capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which is why floral prints were earlier excluded from Marimekko collections. So, Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko´s design identity.

Machine washable - max 40 degrees. Shrinkage max. 4%.
Made in Estonia.

Maija Isola’s (1927–2001) remarkable career as a textile designer began at Printex, Marimekko's predecessor, in 1949 and lasted 38 years.

Maija designed more than 500 fabric patterns, which cover an amazingly diverse range of motifs and design techniques. She drew inspiration for her work from traditional folk art and modern visual art alike, from nature and her countless trips around the world. Her designs, such as Unikko (poppy), Kivet (stones), and Kaivo (well), continue to be an essential part of Marimekko’s collections. Maija’s signature style has, for its part, had a significant impact on Marimekko’s iconic design language.
