This evening we take a little dive into the world of a long-time classic in the top3 by design collection - the Muuto Outline Sofa!
|
The Outline Sofa Family adds new perspectives to the classic Scandinavian design sofas of the 1960's, marrying the ideals of simplicity and function into one. With the design taking its name from its strong outline of a sofa, the Outline family is clean and elegant on the outside with a deep seat and soft cushioning on its inside.

I had the pleasure to meet Torbjørn Anderssen from Anderssen & Voll at the Muuto HQ on a visit a couple of year's back. I am snapped here with Torbjørn, Jae (from Muuto) and Cecilie Manz (designer of several products from the Muuto collection including the Airy Coffee Table series, Workshopped Series and the Compile Shelves)

The Muuto Outline Sofa was the first sofa in the Muuto collection, introduced in 2011.
“With the Outline Sofa Series, we wanted to create a visually light and elegant design with lots of comfort, translating aspects of modern architecture into the design through juxtaposing elements. Outline is created with slim proportions for a simple and elegant look, complemented by its generous seat and slender legs. There’s a calm serenity about the Outline Sofa Series, having a soft and deep seat with clean lines and a strong architectural presence, brought forth by its overlapping forms that bring a refined touch to the expression of the design.” - Anderssen & Voll

About the Designers
Anderssen & Voll is a Oslo based design studio run by Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll.
Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll were born respectively in Elverum, 1976 and in Trondheim, 1965. They both come from creative backgrounds: Torbjørn is the son of a musician and a teacher, and Espen the son of a ceramist and an architect. After graduating from the “Bergen Academy of Art and Design” and the “Oslo National Academy of Art”, they went on to cofound the design group Norway Says in 2000. Norway Says were forerunners in a growing international orientation amongst Norwegian designers – at the same time drawing international interest to Norway’s emerging young design scene. Anderssen & Voll was established in 2009.
Their work spans from furniture, lighting, home accessories and textile design for some of Europe’s most renowned international brands, including Muuto of course!

“We sought to create an identity that had an elegant timelessness to it, making for an appearance that was distinctly refined while making little visual noise,” - Torbjørn Anderssen

As well as a clean Scandinavian look, the architectural lines of the Outline sofa pair beautifully with more organic forms like the Janua Stomp table.
