Numerous works by the creative duo Front are devoted to the systematic observation of sleeping or hibernating animals. This fascination inspired their design of a group of slumbering creatures – Resting Animals – whose poses exude a serene tranquillity. The Resting Cat is an ornamental ceramic figure with a peaceful presence that goes beyond the decorative to communicate a deep sense of contentment.

Vitra is a Swiss company dedicated to improving the quality of homes, offices and public spaces through the power of design.

Their products and concepts are developed in an intensive design process, which brings together their engineering excellence with the creative genius of leading international designers. It is their goal to create interiors, furniture and accessories that are functional and inspiring. Longevity of materials, construction and aesthetics is their leading principle, as demonstrated by their Classics – many in continuous production since the 1950s, and collectables in their own right.

Initiatives like the Vitra Campus architecture, the Vitra Design Museum, workshops, publications, collections and archives are all integral elements of Vitra. They give them the opportunity to gain perspective and depth in all their activities.

Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren – both from Sweden – founded the Stockholm-based design studio Front in 2004. Their work constantly questions the design process, whether through their ‘collaborations’ with animals or their experiments with advanced technology like in the project Sketch Furniture. They have developed objects for major design brands across the world and are represented by Galerie Kreo in Paris and Friedman Benda in New York. Their work can be found in the collection of the Vitra Design Museum, the MoMA of New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
